Collection 06 | Pre-Fall 2022

Pilgrim

Presiding over new transitions and beginnings, Janus, Rome's omnipotent god of the ancient world, had the ability to foresee what lay ahead whilst still maintaining a watchful eye on the past. Observing everything from birth, harvest moons and seasonal change, the all-seeing deity silently contemplated the universe's cyclical patterns…as the hands of time swing decisively from alpha to omega and back again.

Keeping an eye to the future, Alémais opens a window to a mythical past, where the boundless possibilities of dream intersect with a pop pastel palette for their 2022 Pre-fall Collection.

Artist collaboration has always played an integral role in collection development for Alémais. In this spirit, designer Lesleigh Jermanus and Newcastle-based fine artist Annie Everingham have come together to bring the artist’s abstract brushstrokes and leaflike floral compositions to life on oblique one-shoulder dresses and matching sets. Elsewhere, classical symbols and motifs adorn lightweight smock minis, loose-fitting pink patchwork shirts, ivory midi dresses and drawstring tops like lucky charms on 100% linen and ramie fibres.

Channelling abstract collagé, handmade crochet and intricate embroidery, items are woven using all-natural and sustainable fibres, including paper-touch silk taffeta, and in explorative shapes. The mood for the season is rounded off with a classic-style minimalism that embraces a cinematic approach to exaggerated proportions - featuring bold and graceful drawstring detailing, strict linear corset panelling and accentuated uneven tucks.

The 2022 Pre-fall Collection coincides with the debut of Alémais swimwear; including 15 unique one-pieces, bikinis and swim briefs in a potpourri of fits and designs, available in a sextet of seasonal prints and made from Italian recycled nylon.

Keeping the window ajar to a time bygone but not forgotten, our hearts and minds keep pace with the unwritten pages of tomorrow.
